Larry Worley joins
Sacred Warrior
November 2023 – With the news of Jon Johnson leaving the band, Larry Worley joined Sacred Warrior to fill in as guitarist to work with Bruce Swift at the BMI show with Queensryche.
During the rehearsal time for that concert, we all developed a deep respect for Larry’s dedication not only to his craft, but also to his Lord.
Sacred Warrior has extended a full time invitation to Larry to join the band as a full-time member and we are excited to see what the lord has for us in the months to come.
“I was able to run FOH at ImmortalFest 2023 when Larry did a solo worship set on Sunday” says Steve Watkins. “His heart for worship immediately resonated with me. So when he was suggested as a new member, I was immediately in. “
ABOUT US
Sacred Warrior, from Chicago, Illinois, began as a general market metal band known as Nomad which formed in 1985 before Bruce Swift was led to Christianity and which he then led fellow band members Tony Velasquez, Rey Parra & Rick Macias as well. Steve Watkins joined the band at a later date.
Their debut album, Rebellion, was released in 1988 and supported its release on a tour with Resurrection Band in 1989. The album was rated KKKK 1/2 by Dave Reynolds of Kerrang! the same year. Later that year, their sophomore album, Master’s Command, was released. It featured guest vocals from Vengeance Rising frontman Roger Martinez. In 1990 their third album, Wicked Generation, was released and considered a partial concept album about a young person struggling with life seeking hope. Their fourth album was 1991’s, Obsessions, a more straightforward melodic metal album.
The band initially broke up in 1994. The band performed at a reunion show in 2001 at the Cornerstone Festival which was recorded and released on CD later that year. In 2008, the band reformed again and began performing shows. Keyboardist Rick Macias sadly passed away on February 9, 2009. On April 23, 2012 lead vocalist Rey Parra announced he has left the band due to distance issues as he lives in Florida while the rest of the band lives in the Chicago, Illinois area. Parra rejoined the band in 2016 and they released two singles titled “Slave” & “Blood River“. A cover of “On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand” was released in 2020 with a music video including both Rey Parra & Eli Prisen on Vocals.
2023 Sacred Warrior is still doing shows and working on new material. Stay Tuned.
